Filling Lighter Fuel

How to Refill a Zorro Kerosene/Wick Lighter

This guide covers classic Zorro wick lighters that use lighter fuel (kerosene-type or naphtha—check your model manual). Follow the steps below for a clean refill.

What you’ll need

  • Zorro wick lighter

  • Lighter fuel approved for your model (kerosene-type or naphtha)

  • Soft cloth/paper towel

  • Optional: tweezers (to lift felt pad)

Safety checklist

Refill in a ventilated area, away from flames and sparks. Do not overfill. Wipe spills immediately. Keep fuel and lighters away from children/pets.

Step 1: Open and remove the insert

Flip the lid and pull the metal insert straight out of the case.

Step 2: Lift the felt pad

On the bottom of the insert, lift the felt pad marked “Lift to Fill” to reveal the cotton packing.

Step 3: Add fuel slowly

Drip fuel onto the cotton until it looks damp—avoid pooling. Pause occasionally to let the packing absorb; stop when damp but not dripping.

Step 4: Wipe and reassemble

Press the felt pad back down, wipe any residue, and slide the insert into the case.

Step 5: Wait and test

Let it sit 2–3 minutes so the wick saturates, then spark the wheel. If the flame is weak, add a few more drops; if it’s too strong or you smell heavy vapors, leave the lid open for a minute to vent.

Maintenance tips: Replace the flint when sparking weakens, trim or pull up the wick slightly when it chars, and store fuel tightly capped.
